BARF Perfect Pet Food
17 January 2011
BARF Pet Foods (UK) Ltd launch a range of natural, alternative pet food for both Dogs and Cats.
To millions of UK pet owners, keeping their loved ones healthy and happy is paramount and yet increasingly, our pets are experiencing allergies and skin sensitivities almost certainly caused by the food we are feeding them. After all, a diet of kibble or processed tinned dog food (heated to the extreme) would not be the first choice of a wild dog or cat, they would instinctively eat natural raw meat!
Ingested allergens are most commonly found in the food your pet eats. Surprisingly, it is not the color or preservatives that cause the majority of reactions; instead it is the processed meat, grain, or dairy products that are used in the food.

The rising popularity of the BARF (Bones and Raw Food or Biologically Appropriate Raw Food) diet has sparked the birth of a new company in the UK providing this type of food to discerning dog owners. Started by Managing Director Andreas Dauer and Co-Director Leigh Stringer, BARF Pet Foods based in Sittingbourne Kent, aims to offer dog owners a more comprehensive range of meat dishes, treats and supplements for their dogs than has ever be seen before on the market.
BARF follows the evolutional principle that dogs are descended from wolves and other wild dogs and although humans have changed their external appearance as well as special skills (guarding, protecting, hunting or lap-dogs).the dog’s digestive system however remains unchanged. Dogs belong to the family of carnivores, i.e. meat eaters with sharp incisors designed for more than just grinding vegetables and grain.
Meat is the basis of an appropriate, natural and therefore healthy diet, but to round this off a portion of vegetables (whizzed in a blender), cooked rice or gently prepared cereals can be added. This most natural way of feeding your dog is seen by many including the British Homeopathic Veterinary Association as being the best guarantee for a healthy, long and content life.
Andreas Dauer moved to the UK a few years ago and was looking for a local supplier of BARF products so that he could feed his Bernese Mountain Dog, Yalda a raw food diet. Unable to find what he was looking for as in Germany, the BARF diet makes up 30% of the dog food market, Andreas decided to set up his own company sourcing top human grade free range meat from trusted suppliers that he was familiar with.
Andreas said,
“I started to feed Yalda raw mince from the local supermarket but this did not contain the right level of nutrients needed to give my dog a healthy and balanced diet. The BARF Foods’ range is very comprehensive offering varieties and different cuts of meat not currently seen on the market. All our food is vacuum-packed into easy to store pouches which will not take up too much room in the freezer and we are able to deliver anywhere in the UK. Our ranges allow the dog owner to mix and mach their recipes for dogs. We also supply a range of dog treats and bones as well as a new range of health supplements called Canina. These can be added to the food. We are the sole distributors for this range in the UK.”
