Feeding Guidelines
For a natural diet, cooking the meat or offal is not necessary, this would only ensure the loss of valuable ingredients.
The following quantities are calculated as a guide for the average healthy dogs with moderate activity per day. As with humans, individual circumstances and needs may require changes to these guidelines.
Adult dogs 30kg
Overall daily food should be between 1% and 2% of bodyweight
- 500g frozen raw meat, thawed (preparation guidelines below)
- 120g blended raw vegetables, such as quash, carrots, peas or 120g cooked rice
- further suppliments such as Barfer’s Best, Seeweed Powder or Yeast powder can
- be added to the meal. More info on www.barfpetfoods.co.uk
- Rather than feeding once a day, dogs – particularly larger breeds – prefer a small
- breakfast and one main meal
Puppy Diet
Overall daily food should be between 3% and 4% of bodyweight
Our recommendation for puppies during the first 3 months:
| Breakfast | 1 small cup of Goats Milk (never cows milk!) 2 scrambled eggs or ½ tin of low fat Rice pudding, 1 tea spoon of honey |
| Mid Morning | Small cup of Goats Milk |
| Lunch | 1 small amount of puppy meal or chicken ragout Blended raw vegetables |
| Afternoon | Yoghurt with 1 Weetabix, 1 teaspoon honey |
| Dinner | 1 small amount of puppy meal or chicken or fish Blended raw vegetables |
| Supper | 1 small chicken wing before bed |
At 12 weeks reduce the milk and Weetabix and put puppy on 3 meals a day, this will help to get the puppy clean at night.
At about 6 months, reduce to 2 meals a day, until the puppy is well over a year old, then a small breakfast and a main meal for the rest of its life.
When feeding chicken wings, it is important that the puppy is supervised so that it learns how do deal with them. As the BARF diet is very moist, dogs will not require a lot of additional water, however, fresh water should be available all day long.
How to prepare the meals
All of our meals are vacuum packed and frozen. For best results, simply soak the frozen pack in its wrapping in hot or boiling water for 10 minutes before serving. Once thawed, supplements such as vegetables, rice, vitamins, minerals or other remedies can be added if so desired. Food should be room temperature, never frozen. Should you wish to thaw the products in a microwave, please remove the vacuum packaging prior.
